To Whom It May Concern:

I adore pistachios and eat them regularly as a snack. I tend to buy the Sunkist brand pistachios because I recognize the Sunkist brand as a quality product.

I recently purchased a bag of pistachios from my local Albertsons and enjoyed the entire bag over the course of a few days.

Imagine my dismay when I went to open the last one and found a dead maggot inside. A. DEAD. MAGGOT. (I’ve attached a photo of the label, pistachio shell and maggot in question.)

Now, I’m very happy I saw the maggot before I put it in my mouth, but I am now recalling the myriad of pistachios I did not look at before popping the shells open and tossing the contents into my mouth and frankly, I’m freaking the H out.

I realize that even if I did eat a dead maggot or two, my physical health is not really at risk as I’m sure your pistachios have been roasted to the point of killing all living things and what the heat didn’t kill, the salt certainly did. I also recognize that there are several countries in which maggots are a delicacy. However, I have not chosen to visit any of those countries, nor do I intend to do so, being perfectly content to explore the range of delicacies my local supermarket provides.

So, while my physical health is not at risk, my mental health is demanding that I write you this letter with the hope that this sort of thing will never happen again.
